ATLFF’25 Opening Night Film, COLOR BOOK, on Netflix!

On April 24th, 2025, the Georgia-made film COLOR BOOK opened the 49th Atlanta Film Festival. This touching tale sold out not only its opening night screening at ATLFF’25 at the historic Plaza Theatre, but also its subsequent encore at the prestigious Tara Theatre. After the film’s highly acclaimed Atlanta premiere at ATLFF’25, COLOR BOOK would go on to have 20 nominations and 12 wins on the film festival circuit, including Best Narrative Feature (Austin Film Festival) and Best U.S. Feature (Chicago International Film Festival). Now, the film has secured its theatrical release and distribution by the world's largest streaming platform, Netflix.

COLOR BOOK will be in select theatres and available for streaming at home on Friday, June 19th. To celebrate the film, Atlanta Film Society Executive Director and co-Producer of COLOR BOOK is hosting two nights of special screenings with Q&As ahead of the film's run at Plaza and Tara theatres on Friday, June 19, and Saturday, June 20. The success of COLOR BOOK is not only a product of hard work inspired by passion, but it’s also a testament to the stage the Atlanta Film Festival provides to independent filmmakers and their stories. ABOUT THE FILMMAKERS

In writer/director David Fortune’sdirectorial debut, a devot­ed father named Lucky (William Catlett), fol­low­ing the pass­ing of his wife, learns to raise his son with Down Syndrome, Mason (Jeremiah Daniels), as a sin­gle par­ent. While adjust­ing to their new reality, the two embark on a jour­ney through Metro Atlanta to attend their first base­ball game. 

Emerging from this as a filmmaker not only on the rise, but as someone everyone must keep track of is David Fortune.  From Atlanta, Georgia, David was named Variety's 10 Directors to Watch in 2025 and received the AT&T Untold Stories Award, which provided a $1 million grant to direct COLOR BOOK. David is a proud alumnus of Morehouse College and Loyola Marymount University's School of Film and Television. As a writer and director, he seeks to capture character-driven stories that live inside cinematic worlds, bringing depth and humanity to narratives on a larger scale. 

Kiah Alexandria Clingman is another name to keep an eye on. Kiah is an actress, a director, and a producer of the film. She is a 2020 Southern Producers Lab fellow sponsored by Sundance Institute and the New Orleans Film Society. She was recently selected as a Top 10 Finalist for the Fall 2022 Film Impact Grant. She was also selected as a REVOLT Short and Fresh Winner, Fall 2022.  Kiah is well-known for her guest star role as “Hannah” in FOX’s “The Resident”, her recurring role in NBC’s “Ordinary Joe,” and supporting roles in CW’s “Black Lightning”, CBS’s “S.W.A.T.”, and her comedic relief in Netflix’s “Undercover Brother 2”. She played the lead role, Chanel, in Black & Sexy TV’s series, “Doing It Wrong”, which premiered on Black & Sexy TV’s paid subscription service as a part of their HBCU initiative. 

Kiah Clingman finds purpose in amplifying the voices of the unheard and raising awareness of ignored and misunderstood topics. She seamlessly integrates her corporate expertise with her creative flair.
